LDANS to Host First Maritime Edition of Boot It Up!
The Learning Disabilities Association of Nova Scotia (LDANS), together with Blundstone Footwear, The Trail Shop, and FRED Salon Café and Gallery will host the first-ever Maritime edition of Boot It Up! live at FRED on 2606 Agricola Street on Feb. 5, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m.
The Boot It Up! fundraising event is one of a kind! Blundstone Footwear (in partnership with The Trail Shop) has donated 15 pairs of their iconic boots to be artistically treated by local artists, musicians, celebrities and designers using all different mediums. The boots have been re-invented into beautiful, exciting and unique works of art (or fashion!) with the objective to raise funds from each pair at the live auction on Feb. 5. The boots have been on display and generating a buzz at FRED since Jan. 10, 2009.
The event was shaped and very successfully implemented in Toronto in support of Sketch, a group who create art opportunities for street involved or at risk youth. "We’re very excited to be introducing Boot it Up! to the Maritimes, and we think that LDANS is a perfect match for this type of fundraising event", says Mark Goosney from Fistfullafives, Halifax’s local representative of Blundstone Footwear.
Participating artists range from seasoned painters like Holly Carr, Colleen Wolstenholme and Alan Bateman to singer/songwriters such as Daniel Ledwell from Inflight Safety, Jenn Grant, Rose Cousins and many more. Liz Rigney from CTV’s Live at 5 has even thrown her own pair of Blundstone’s into the mix.
"When I was first asked to participate in "Boot it Up", I said yes right away! I love the concept - it’s new, it’s creative, and it’s for a great cause", said Rigney.
Tickets are still available for this event through LDANS’ website (www.ldans.ca), The Trail Shop at 6210 Quinpool Rd. and FRED at 2606 Agricola St. or can be purchased at the door.
