In her own words; “My work ranges from wacky masks and outrageous bird sculptures to funky home decor items such as clocks and switchplates. Mosaic work ranges from deliciously coloured geometric patterns to quirky fish and landscapes. Visitors to the studio will be treated to something out of the ordinary, both in my off-the-wall work and the glorious studio setting.”

Alan Bateman is forging a reputation as one of Canada’s finest realists. He comes from a rich artistic legacy, where painting was a natural pastime. Alan Bateman is a two-time recipient of The Elizabeth Greenshields Award. He’s been very active with thirteen solo exhibitions and thirteen group exhibitions to his credit. He has exhibited extensively throughout Canada, including shows in Toronto, Halifax, Hamilton, Edmonton and Victoria. In the USA he has exhibited in Ohio, Oregon and Minnesota.

Through shifts in career, extended travels and changes in lifestyle, art has been a constant. Photography, graphic design, drawing and painting have all been outlets for expression.

It was not until Lynn picked up a paintbrush and started working with oil that she found her passion. Since then, painting has been her main focus although drawing is also fundamental to her art practice.

Several paintings from her “Empty Bowls, Sacred Vessels” series are in the collection of the Nova Scotia Art Bank and charcoal drawings from “Holocaust and Memory” toured to France.

Colleen Wolstenholme

Colleen Wolstenholme currently lives and works in Hantsport, Nova Scotia. She holds a BFA from NSCAD (1986) and an MFA from the State University of New York (1992). She has taught at NSCAD, SUNY, MCAD, and ST Thomas University.

Permanent collections where her work can be found include those of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Cambridge Galleries, Confederation Centre Art Gallery, and Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal.

Liz Rigney is one of CTV Atlantic’s most popular personalities. Her career with CTV began on Breakfast Television in 1994 before she moved, in 2002, to the newsroom where she reported for the CTV Evening News and Live at 5. In February 2006, Liz became the host and producer of Take Five the popular lifestyle and entertainment segment on Live at 5.

Liz has won a Best Regional Feature Award from the Canadian Radio and Television News Directors Association, an Edward R. Murrow Award from the American Radio and Television News Directors Association and a prestigious International Edward R. Murrow Award also from the RTNDA.

Originally from Charlottetown, Liz moved to Halifax in 1985 where she attended the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University. In 1992 she graduated with a degree in music and then went on to King’s for a degree in journalism. Liz is extremely committed to her job at CTV, but she is also passionate about her music and community work. She performs with her own trio, with the Stadacona Military Band and at various charitable concerts and events. Liz has also released two professional CD’s. Liz is very active through the region, hosting a huge number and variety of events that help raise funds for CTV supported organizations like the IWK Health Centre, the Children’s Wish Foundation, Kids Help Phone and the Salvation Army.

When she gets the opportunity, Liz likes to travel and has been fortunate to trek through the exotic locales of Tibet, Russia and Easter Island.

As a child, Ryan would create miniature villages to escape from his rural Nova Scotia. These imaginary neighborhoods seem to populate the verses of his songs, the fantasies of relationships and longing. Joni Mitchell's influence seeps through the tones of his work; as a writer, as a painter and as a vocalist.

Ryan MacGrath's captivating presence as a performer and songwriter has drawn the attention of Halifax's eclectic music scene, allowing him a special place amongst it's rising stars. Sharing stages and events only spreads the word about his diverse talent and as his gathering fans await more stories from the miniature village of this prolific artist.

By the end of every live show, Rose Cousins has you feeling something. Intimate vocals and warm guitar convey a passionate honesty that leaves you feeling like each of her songs could somehow belong to you.

Since releasing her first EPs, Only So Long (2002) and Miles To Go (2003), Cousins has spent time carving a place for herself in the songwriting community in her adopted home base, of Halifax, NS, nationally and in the US. With her distinctive stage performance, audiences can find themselves in tears one moment and fits of laughter  the next. Her style is beautifully captured in her latest release and first full-length recording If You Were For Me. If You Were For Me draws on influences from traditions of folk, bluegrass, pop and Appalachian music. Released in September 2006, the record has been receiving regular airplay on and praise from radio stations across North America.

Jenn Grant, born in Prince Edward Island, now lives in Halifax where she is a singer/songwriter and painter. Last year she completed a month long tour in Germany as well other dates in France, England, Switzerland, Luxembourg and most recently Northern Ireland. The summer brought a special invite to the Edmonton Folk Festival and then some performances in NYC. She returns this fall for more US dates to follow. Grant continues to write songs and tour in support of Orchestra for the Moon and looks forward to recording her next album.

Daniel Ledwell is a member of In-flight Safety and the Prospector's Union and is or has been a backing musician to Royal Wood, Rose Cousins, Christina Martin, Share, Tanya Davis, Norma MacDonald, Jenn Grant, Meaghan Smith, Mardeen and Julie Fader. As In-Flight Safety's keyboardist Daniel Ledwell has already tried his hand at the layered and explosive side of the indie rock spectrum, so it's only natural that he'd explore the more subdued and sparse side of things with his debut solo album, the hunting and resonant Two Over Seven.

Miro Davis

Miro Davis is an artist who was born in Vancouver BC, and grew up in New Mexico and Colorado. Davis completed her BFA in sculpture at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1995, and has completed a number of specialty workshops in various media at the University of California San Diego and the Massachusetts College of Art. Davis draws upon childhood experiences that are woven into her work resulting in visually complex and compelling narratives. She has worked collaboratively with communities and schools in the creation of large-scale three-dimensional murals and wall relief installations. Davis has shown at galleries in the US and Canada and has completed permanent public installations in California.
